The launcher is light. Java Edition’s 2026 spec sheet is not stuck in 2009.
You can install the launcher on a modest PC and still have Java Edition feel awful. Mojang’s 21 July 2026 Java Edition requirements are about the game, Vibrant Visuals work, and a Vulkan 1.3 class GPU — not about whether MinecraftLauncher.exe opens.

Launcher versus game
The Microsoft Store listing for Minecraft Launcher (9PGW18NPBZV5) still calls out no support for Windows 10 S mode and ARM devices for that Store package. Java Edition’s 2026 sheet mentioning Windows on ARM is about the game going forward, not a promise that today’s Store launcher package is ARM-ready. If you are on ARM, test the official download page for the current supported path rather than forcing the x64 Store app.
Bedrock on PC remains a Windows 10/11 product with its own, usually lower, RAM floor. Linux and macOS official play is Java Edition.
Heap advice lives with installations — do not set -Xmx to all installed RAM.
